"When I run, I feel His pleasure."

"I believe God made me for a purpose but He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure." - Eric Lidell (Chariots of Fire)

Eric Henry Lidell, known as the "Flying Scotsman", was the winner of the men's 400 meters at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.  His life as an athlete and missionary was depicted in the 1981 Oscar winning movie, Chariots of Fire.  The movie's highlight was when Eric refused to run in the Olympics because his race (100 meters)  was scheduled on a Sunday.  His religious conviction was Sunday was for the Lord. He was forced to withdraw from the 100 meter race which was his best event and joined the 400 meters instead.  He was not the favored candidate for this race because his past record was only modest based on international standards. As Eric went to the starting block, an American contestant slipped a note on his hand, with a quotation from 1Samuel 2:30, "Those who honor me, I will honor."  Eric won the race, breaking the existing Olympic and world record with a time of 47.6 seconds. His performance remained an Olympic record for four years.

What is it in you that brings pleasure to God? Honor Him with it and He will honor you back as He had promised. :)
