"When I run, I feel His pleasure."

"I believe God made me for a purpose but He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure." - Eric Lidell (Chariots of Fire)

Eric Henry Lidell, known as the "Flying Scotsman", was the winner of the men's 400 meters at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.  His life as an athlete and missionary was depicted in the 1981 Oscar winning movie, Chariots of Fire.  The movie's highlight was when Eric refused to run in the Olympics because his race (100 meters)  was scheduled on a Sunday.  His religious conviction was Sunday was for the Lord. He was forced to withdraw from the 100 meter race which was his best event and joined the 400 meters instead.  He was not the favored candidate for this race because his past record was only modest based on international standards. As Eric went to the starting block, an American contestant slipped a note on his hand, with a quotation from 1Samuel 2:30, "Those who honor me, I will honor."  Eric won the race, breaking the existing Olympic and world record with a time of 47.6 seconds. His performance remained an Olympic record for four years.

What is it in you that brings pleasure to God? Honor Him with it and He will honor you back as He had promised. :)

For what shall it profit a man...

"For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world but lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36

Man's soul has only two ultimate destinations: with God or away from God. Given the limited time we have on earth, (we are lucky if we live up to 80 years old), we must not get caught up in pursuing the temporal things of this world and neglect those that have eternal value. We may end up rich and famous but if we have not developed a personal relationship with God, our ultimate destination will be on the wrong side of eternity (i.e.hell).  The wealth and fame we have enjoyed carelessly is fleeting but the final destination that awaits us is permanent. Make the right choices. :)

And I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart – Jeremiah 24:7 (NIV)

Values are easier caught...

Values are easier caught than taught.  I am creating this blog so that I can follow the blogs of my students in Values Education.  I believe that a 30-minute class everyday is not enough for everyone to express their opinions and ideas. Hence, our blogs will become our cyber-classroom. It will give each one a personal space to reflect and express themselves. Interaction is also encouraged provided that the proper netiquette is observed. I hope this will lead them to clarify their values, identify their passions, and  discover their missions in life; hopefully before the school year ends.  :)
